Organic milk market in trouble

Here is an interesting article from The New York Times that talks about the difficulties being faced by the organic milk market and shortcomings of the business model. A lack of demand due to economic downturn has made it tough for farmers to recover the cost of converting from traditional to organic, which can run into hundreds of thousands of dollars. Farmers are overstocked as people begin cutting down on organic milk consumption, more a luxury perhaps than a need. The article points out to the need for connecting the small farmers – who may be remotely located - well to the markets.
